Foundational techniques and excercises of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu taken from Gyokko-ryu, this is the alphabet of our taijutsu. Unlike the Kihon Happo which teaches one to work their body mechanics with a partner, this teaches the body how to move properly through solo training; focusing on proper angling and fluid movement. The Sanshin no kata (Three Heart Form) is made up of five different forms. There are no "theories" or forms of eath, water, fire, etc; the names are simply a means of a counting system.
They also drill us in a core defensive tactic – move offline while striking, opposed to standing there and blocking or moving back in panic. Moving offline is a very useful tactic because it gives us distance and time to respond. You wouldn’t guess it from the multitudes of videos on Youtube showing the Sanshin no Kata, but in the old days these exercises were listed in the secret section of the Gyokko-ryu scrolls.
Chi no kata (Earth Form) down and up swinging strike.
Sui no kata (Water Form) out and in strike.
Ka no kata (Fire Form) in and out strike.
Fu no kata (Wind Form) piercing strike angling up or down.
Ku no kata (Void Form) kick.
